The products and services of the organisation

• Viva La Gong is a festival that is held every year in Wollongong, this year at MacCabe Park. the capital city of the Illawarra. It had peformers, artists, It made a effect on the talent of people from all different performances.

Your tasks/roles and responsibilities

• When I was working as a volunteer at Viva La Gong I task was Event Survey Assistant, Information Tent Assistant, helping people with enquiries about the festival this included what time does this specific event start. I was working under pressure at times when it came to handing the event surveys out to the people. I was assisting the children's workshops , putting the signs of Information Tent near the information Tent section. I found there was work do to. I had to meet initiatives. My responsibility was to look after the information tent section as there had to be someone there to mind and there to help assist the public. I meet all different people while dooing my work experience there, I met one lady who came from overseas.

Characteristics of the organisation

• This organisation holds events as part of Wollongong City Council. They organised this annual event. Cutural Services co-ordinator is Lisa Nolan she is the one who tells everyone helping out where to put everything.


• Wollongong City Council had spent moneyon this event.

• Roles and responsibilities of other workers in the organisation


• The role of the volunteers coordinator was to give direction to the other volunteers there. Lisa Nolan is the co-ordinator.

• I developed good interpesonal skills, good customer service skills, good knowledge of Viva La Gong festival

• The volunteers co-ordinator Paola Rodriquez undertook a TAFE course in Communication and Media previous year.

Viva La Gong

Viva la Gong was a good festival that I attended. The co-ordinator was Paola she came into the classroom to talk about the festival what roles are available, I was interested in many different roles, the coordinator mentioned about when the festival will start to tick all of the roles of interest to have different skills of each. I was not sure whether it would be a good idea to do work placement at VIVA LA GONG. There were two different forms one form was to choose the preferences of roles. the other was to register for undertaking the role. There were different volunteers from the same course and other students from the course, to be able to attend my workplacement. Workplacement is compulsory to undertake as it is part of the course, I put in the dates and times, when I was available. I gave the co-ordinator a call at first to mention that I am interested in Administration as a first preference, then I put down the other roles. I started workplacement on the 10th - 12 October, 2008. There were other employees from cultural services who turned up on the information session who were talking about each different roles and what is expected for each role. When I had conformed workplacement I got a call from the volunteers co-ordinator Paola, she gave a call to tell me when to hand in the two forms to her and she told me about the date when to go there. I went to the Cultural Services organisation.
